In 2018 my team entered the Global Game Jam for our first time. The one word brief was "Transmission". Myself and the other designer collaborated and came up with STD RPG, a side scrolling role playing game where you play as a Sexually Transmitted Disease.

 

The player progresses through the game, evolving their disease along the way. Using turn based combat the player fights off antibiotics and condoms in order to infect as many people as possible. We implemented educational value as the player meets other STD's and learns about their symptoms and how to cure them. ​

As my first experience of a Global Game Jam this was the first time I saw how quickly a game could be created. Additionally this project highlighted that no idea is too strange and sometimes the more obscure it is the better the end product will be.
