Honours Project

(2019)

I have just completed my Honours Research on "Can video games be used in the return to play protocol for concussed athletes".

I researched a variety of concussion assessments along with a series of video games associated with mental health. Using this research I developed  a video game that in theory could be used as a more engaging way of assessing whether or not a player is able to return to play their specific sport.

My game is a 3D Role Playing Game where different areas of the level correlate to different concussion assessment methods, for example, reaction time, hand eye coordination and short term memory.

The whole project was created in Unity using C# for all of the scripting. This project changed drastically as the year went on, however by following an Agile workflow I was able to iterate and change the current design quickly and efficiently.

This project is something close to my heart as through playing rugby I have seen people suffer from concussions and personally suffered from one myself. I loved using my design ability and implementing it on something that is topical in the sport that I love to play.
